Five people were injured when an uncontrollable car crashed into several roadside huts in the early hours of Sunday near Ita Bhatti Square, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Yashodhara Nagar police station.
A major incident was averted when the car came to a halt after a wooden log became stuck in the tyres; otherwise, many people, including children, would have died. The car (MH33-4334) was travelling from Ita BHatti Square to Power Grid Square.
People who witnessed the incident stated that the driver suddenly lost control of the car, causing it to jump in the air and cross the road divider before crashing into the labourers’ huts on the roadside near Cancer Hospital.
The speeding car destroyed 5 huts in the incident. Later, due to the wooden log that was stuck in the wheels of the car, it slowed down. The labourers helped each other and rescued the injured ones. The car was totally damaged resulting in the driver being stuck inside.
The eyewitnesses claim that the driver was drunk driving. The police officials of Yashodhara police station reached the spot and helped the driver come out by breaking the car’s door. The driver was then sent to the hospital for treatment. A police case has been filed against the car driver.
