Prime Minister launched AMRUT 2.0 on October 1st, 2021 with a vision to make all cities water secure and provide universal coverage of water supply services in all the urban areas of the country. One of the outcomes of AMRUT 2.0 is to provide 24×7 water supply with drink from tap facility in at least one ward or one DMA in all 500 AMRUT cities.
In order to handhold, disseminate knowledge and support States and Cities for smooth transition from intermittent water supply to 24X7 continuous water supply systems, Ministry constituted National Task Force ( NTF) under the chairmanship of Adviser (PHEE), CPHEEO in April, 2022 with the technical cooperation of GIZ. So far 25 States and UTs have constituted State Task Forces (STF) on 24×7 water supply systems under AMRUT 2.0.
In the first regional workshop on 24×7 Water Supply System organized by CPHEEO, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in September,2022 at Puri, Odisha, 9 States/UTs participated and reported that around 300 cities will be implementing 24×7 water supply projects. Further, Govt. of Kerala organized the 1st State Level workshop of the STF on 28th November. 2022 at Thiruvananthapuram.
In this series, second Regional Workshop was organised by CPHEEO with the technical support of GIZ and Nagpur Municipal Corporation on 21st & 22nd February, 2023 at Nagpur, wherein State Task Forces from 11 major States Viz Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh,, Madhya Pradesh,Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Delhi participated. D. Dr M Dhinadhayalan. Adviser(PHEE) and Chairman of NTF welcomed the Participant and Shri. Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur Municipal Corporation delivered the special address during the inaugural session on the first day. The National Task Force has steered the technical sessions on the 1st day. The drink from tap projects commissioned/being implemented in Puri, Nagpur, coimbatore, pune and Aurangabad were presented. International best practices on drink from tap facilities and NRW control were also presented.
Smt. Thara, Additional Secretary and National Mission Director(AMRUT) delivered the key note address on the 2nd day and reviewed the State Action plans of drink from tap projects presented by the 11 States under AMRUT 2.0. The National Mission Director decided that henceforth the 24×7 water supply has to be promoted as drink from tap facilities, The 11 States reported that drink from tap projects are commissioned/proposed to be implemented in about 306 cities in pilot scale and will be scaled up in a phased manner. Out of 306 projects, few projects were already commissioned.
The conference was attended by more than 120 participants including the Chairmen and members of the State-level Task Force (STF) of 11 States, comprising of Technical Heads, Chief Engineers, City Engineers & senior engineers. All the participants have visited the drink from tap facilities in one of the slum areas of Nagpur City.
