The websites of 95 central government ministries have been made accessible to people with disabilities. According to sources familiar with the situation, 676 websites from various states have also been made available to them.
For making websites accessible for differently-abled people, an integrated browser-based tool with text-to-speech and text-to-Braille System that provides a verbal description of all events of a web page, including links, buttons, check boxes, text, and so on, which are keyboard-event-driven, and provides ‘keyboard only’ accessibility using a minimal set of keys, has been developed.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has launched a project called “Content Management Framework” to make Central Government websites accessible to people with disabilities. According to sources, a fund of Rs 16 crore has been released under it.
