The popularity of branded clothing among young people has increased with the growth of e-marketing. Yet, many stores in the city deceive the public by selling counterfeit branded clothing in order to earn a profit.
These clothing are being sold from large stores in the city under the influence of a large racket. Recently, a significant step was launched in this direction, leading to the seizure from Itwari of hundreds of pairs of jeans and T-shirts. The measure has sparked alarm among Nagpur’s garment traders.
Police had received a complaint that many shops in the city were selling duplicate clothes in the name of famous brands. Following the complaint, four shops in Itwari were raided and hundreds of fake jeans and T-shirts were seized from there. All these clothes were in the name of expensive brands and were being sold at the same price.
Fake clothes were being sold under the name of Levi’s company clothes. Apart from jeans, a large quantity of T-shirts were also seized.
A case has been registered against Rohit Jain, manager of Deepa Readymade Stores, Vishal Khode, owner of Maa Mahalakshmi Garments and Maa Sharda Garments, and Akhilesh Modi, owner of Monish Garments, at Tehsil police station for violation of copyright law.
Sources said that the concerned company has contracted some agencies to monitor where duplicate goods are being sold under their name across the country.
