The painted sandgrouse is a plump ground-dwelling bird with a small head and short legs. The bird is typically found dry regions in rough grassland, rocky areas and scrub and feeds mainly on seeds.
The bird was rescued by a person from outskirts of the city. The wings of the bird was cut when it was brought to the Treatment Transit Center (TTC), Nagpur. It is known that the bird might have been caught by hunters for poaching. The bird is hunted on a large scale for local bushmeat.
Just like the Quail (Bater), the Painted Sandgrouse is also consumed at a very large scale and are becoming extinct very quickly. The bird is currently being treated at the Treatment Transit Center (TTC), Seminary Hills by the team of doctors.
