RTM Nagpur University’s Department of Physical Education will felicitate social worker Bhikuji alias Dada Idate. Dada was honoured with Padma Shri award by the Government of India.
Idate will be felicitated at a function to be held at a hall at the Department of Management of the University, at 11 am on April 17. RTMNU Pro-VC Dr Sanjay Dudhe will be in the chair. EX-MP Padma Shri Dr Vikas Mahatme will be the chief guest. RTMNU Senate member Waman Turke, and former Head of the Department Dr Dhananjay Welukar will be the guests of honour.
Born on June 2, 1949 in Tetwali village of Dapoli taluka in Ratnagiri district, Idate did B Sc, B Ed and D Pharm. He worked to organize nomadic and denotified tribes to raise the demand for forming a National Commission for their development. He also promoted education among the children from these communities and development through sports. Inspired by Idate RTMNU’s Physical Education Department selected 100 students from backward areas for training in athletics, football, badminton, gymnastics, handball, basketball, chess, karate, table tennis etc.
Idate worked at various key positions for the Government of India. He also wrote nine books on issues and measures to be taken for the development of nomadic and denotified tribes. Idate received several awards for his distinguished work, informs Dr Sharad Suryavanshi, Head, Department of Physical Education of RTMNU.
