Wadi Police have arrested Pravin Giripunje, the Director of Well Treat Hospital, for attempting to export Rs 40 lakh from Vishal Khemchandani, whose mother has rented a two-storyed building to the accused in order to open the hospital in Adarsh Nagar in Wadi. According to the reports, the accused demanded compensation for vacating the rented space.
Vishal Khemchandani (31) of Byramji Town, Sadar, has filed a complaint in this regard. Vishal’s mother, Rajani, owned offices in Adarsh Nagar, according to the police. Pravin Giripunje, his partner Dr Rahul Thavre, and four additional directors rented the offices on the second and third floors of the building in 2015.
At present, a case in this regard is also ongoing in the court. The accused demanded Rs 40 lakh from Vishal for vacating the place between March 18 and April 8 this year. Later, on behalf of Vishal’s complaint, the Wadi police has registered a case of extortion against the duo.
It may be recalled that Wadi police arrested Director of Well Treat Hospital Rahul Thavre for negligently causing the death of four patients after a fire broke out in the hospital’s ICU on April 9, 2021.
Four patients in the intensive care unit died as a result of the fire incident. Shivshakti Bhagwan Sonbhasre (35), of Godegaon, Parseoni, Tulshiram Sapkan Pardhi (47), of Gorewada Road, Prakash Baburao Bonde (69), of Manish Nagar, Nagpur, and Ranjana Mahukar Kadu (44), of Dhapewada, Kalmeshwar tehsil, were among the deceased.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the accused Director of Well Treat Hospital, Rahul Thavre, and the hospital administration used inferior electrical tools and had failed to deploy firefighting equipment at the hospital. Despite knowing that a fire would result in human deaths and physical damage, the hospital administration acted recklessly, resulting in the deaths of four patients.
Based on a complaint filed by Pravin Ramdas Mahant (37), a resident of Sneh Nagar, Mouda, Nagpur, Wadi police arrested the Director of the Hospital Rahul Thavre and others under Sections 304 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Later the licence of Well Treat Multispeciality Hospital and Critical Crae Centre, wadi was cancelled by Nagpur District Civil Surgeon (CS) after four patients were charred to death in a fire in the hospital on the night of April 9, 2021.
