New undergraduate and postgraduate courses ranging from Vastu to Indian musical instruments will be taught beginning with the academic session 2023-24, as part of the Education Ministry’s drive for Indian systems of knowledge. This new project was launched in accordance with the provisions of the New Education Policy, and the UGC has already developed a draught.
Indian Language Science, Indian Vastu Shastra, Indian logic science, metallurgy science, sculpting science, algebra, Indian musical instruments, and pre-British era period water management are among the new subjects.
Six vedangas are featured in the foundation course: Indian civilisation and culture, Indian mathematics, Astrology, Indian Health Sciences, and Indian Agriculture. Furthermore, higher education institutes throughout the country will offer courses in idol worship, astrological instruments, vedanga philosophy, health philosophy, and agriculture, among other things.
According to the UGC, draughts for courses based on Indian systems of knowledge have been given to universities, higher educational institutes, and states across the country. States and educational institutions can submit suggestions to the UGC till April 30. Admissions to higher educational institutes will be made under a four-year undergraduate plan, according to UGC chairperson M Jagdish Kumar.
Students with admission in universities get at least a 5% credit score for courses based on Indian systems of knowledge. Initial measures have been initiated in this regard, with all IIT institutions, university chancellors, and college heads informed.
The UGC wrote a letter to everyone in which it stated that the measure was taken to foster cultural growth. Attempts are being made to include Vedic Mathematics into higher education institutions.
