Drones are now going to keep an eye on prisons in the state. This will help in keeping a close watch on the security and movement of the prisoners inside the jail. In the first phase, 12 places will be patrolled by drones. Drone surveillance has been prioritized to strengthen prison security.
12 drones will record the movements of various prisons. Filming will also be done at night by the respective drones. In particular, it will help to get updates about the incidents and inmates in the jail. Drone inspection has been started in Yerwada Central Jail, Kolhapur, Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Taloja, Thane, Amravati, Nagpur, Kalyan and Chandrapur on pilot basis.
Special efforts are being made for the safety of the prisoners including the jails in the state. In this background, now it is preferred to capture the movements through drones as well. Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General of Prisons Amitabh Gupta has informed that drone monitoring will be done on 8 central 2 district jails and 2 open jails on an experimental basis.
The state of Uttar Pradesh is the first in the country to use drone cameras to strengthen prison security. The state of Maharashtra has become the second state.
