Workshop on the use of Artificial Intelligence in Journalism organized at IIMC, Amravati.
One Day Workshop on the topic “Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Journalism and Media Management” was organized on Saturday at the Amravati Regional Centre of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
Vivek Mittal (Founder, of Yugasa Software Labs) was the keynote speaker on this occasion. The workshop was also addressed by Prof.(Dr.) V.K. Bharti, the Regional Director. All the students of English, Hindi and Marathi journalism attended the workshop actively.
Mittal in his address said that AI had multiple applications in the field of journalism and it was redefining the profession in unprecedented ways. It could help in improving the efficiency and productivity of a news organization.
AI could help in increasing accuracy and objectivity, increasing ad revenue and greater audience engagement. Automated news production, data analysis and prediction, personalized news delivery, fact-checking, verification of fake news, translation, transcription, video analysis, audience analysis, content optimization, ad targeting and social media management were some of the other applications of AI in modern-day journalism. Chat GPT has been a recent breakthrough in this regard.
Mittal mentioned that there were some apprehensions like jobs requiring human beings getting replaced by AI-enabled robots. There were some ethical concerns too. Some deep fake videos were found spreading fake news and misinformation. He said that instead of criticizing the technology journalists should try to learn about it and implement it in their profession.
Prof.VKBharti also addressed the audience on this occasion. He observed that while there were many benefits associated with AI but there were some fears too. This technology has left many journalists worried and scared as it has the potential to replace human jobs. He said that newsrooms across the world including India are now using this technology on a trial basis. Journalists need to become familiar with this technology and learn about it instead of fearing it.
Dr Rajesh Singh Kushwaha, Anil Jadhav, Dr Vinod Nitale, Dr Ashish Dubey and non-teaching staff Sanjay Pakhode, Rajesh Jholekar, Noor Sheikh, BhushanMohokar and Komal Ingle were present. The event was conducted by students of English Journalism. Ruchika Pareek moderated the programme, Rohit introduced the guest, Aryan gave the introductory speech and Prabhat Kumar (Assistant Professor) proposed the Vote of Thanks.
