Samruddhi Highway, which is a game changer for Maharashtra, is becoming a death trap for commuters. Between January 2023 and April 2023, a total of 37 people died in 422 accidents on this highway. Including 22 men and 22 women and 3 children. Since the opening of this highway, many people have lost their lives in accidents. So many people are avoiding this highway.
Due to the possibility of accidents, vehicles with worn tires are being blocked on the Samriddhi Highway. tires filled with nitrogen gas are useful for traveling on this route. For that, nitrogen gas filling facility has been provided at all the petrol pumps on the highway. Good tires are a must for traveling here. Using remolded tires is said to be wrong.
The 520 km Nagpur-Shirdi first phase of Samruddhi Highway was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 11 December 2022. A total of 3 lakh 54 thousand 283 vehicles have paid toll of about 20 crore 2 lakh rupees on this highway only in a period of one month.
According to the official, the accidents were caused by driver falling asleep, driver losing control due to excessive speed, driving with extra load, stress, road hypnosis, distraction etc. In order to prevent accidents, Row (RoW) protective wall has been constructed at most places on Samriddhi Highway. Also the chain linking fencing is being erected along the crash barrier to prevent wild animals from crossing and public address system is being installed on the booth.
An Intelligent Transport System (ITS) will soon be introduced for traffic and incident control. Apart from this, there are 13 fuel station, now the tender process is in progress to provide facilities at 16 places.
