Amaravati: The future of book publishing is bright. Digital mediums are not the competitors but rather supplementing the print content. New topics and subjects should be explored by the new age writers. There should be a diversity of content. These views were presented by senior journalist and eminent author Pankaj Chaturvedi.
World Book Day and Copyright Day was celebrated at the IIMC West Regional Campus Amravati on Sunday. The program was organized under the guidance of the Director General of the Institute, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Dwivedi. It was presided over by IIMC- WRC’s Regional Director Prof. (Dr.) Virendra Kumar Bharti.
Author Pankaj Chaturvedi said that today the problem is not of readability, but of availability. The challenge is to make the books accessible to as many people as possible. For this it is necessary that journalists create public awareness so that access to good books and the library could be ensured. It should become an electoral issue and during the elections, the voters should demand from their representative to open goodlibraries. Mr. Chaturvedi also suggested that libraries could be established in the hospitals so that the patients and their relatives coming there for treatment can have mental and intellectual development. He told that the number of book lovers who attended the recently concluded World Book Fairat New Delhi shows that people’s interest in books remains intact.
Giving information about copyright law, Dr. Vijay Kumar Choubey, the former Pro Vice-Chancellor of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, said that basically the philosophy of copyright is to encourage people for innovation and creativity. Copyright is mostly applicable in the cases when a work is used for commercial purposes. He explained the meaning and importance of copyright to the students. He elaborated about the precautions which should be taken to avoid coming under the purview of copyright law. He said that we live in an age of technology and the distribution of written materials and creative content had become much easier therefore it was very important to know about the different aspects of the copyright law.
In the program, the Regional Director Prof. (Dr.) Virendra Kumar Bharti said that books played a great role in our lives.They contributed in the mental development of a person. He quoted a research finding which said that a person who reads books lived two years longer than those who didn’t. Although digital reading devices were gaining popularity these days but they were also causing some health related concerns such as eye problems. Considering the importance of books in our lives it was necessary to persuade the interest of younger generation towards them.
Faculties, Dr. Rajesh Singh Kushwaha, Dr. Vinod Nitale, Prabhat Kumar, Senior Broadcast Journalism Trainer Ramesh Chandra, non-teaching staff Sanjay Pakhode, Noor Sheikh, Bhushan Mohokar and Komal Ingle were present in the programme. The stage was moderated by Swati Dubey and Vivek Shukla. Ruchi Sinha and Rohit Agarwal explained the importance of the special day. Rajeev Mishra gave the welcome address. Dr. Ashish Dubey proposed the vote of thanks.
