Marathi people staying in Mauritius will celebrate Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Day on April 28. Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will remain present. Senior journalist Dr Deepak Dalvi has also been invited to the event.
People from Maharashtra are living in Mauritius for over two centuries. Many of them are holding key positions. They have preserved their culture and traditions. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Day is one of the programmes organised by the Maharashtrians in Mauritius. Every year the event is held on May 1. This year, however, it will be held on April 28.
Festivals like Gudhipadwa, Maharashtra Day, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Day, Ganesh Utsav, Dahi Handi (Shrikrishna Janmashtami), Diwali and other festivals are celebrated with religious fervour. Dr Dalvi has been visiting Mauritius for the last 20 years because of his relations with the people there. He is one of the people who make efforts to bring together all Marathi people there.
The programme will be held at Maharashtra Bhavan premises in Mauritius.
