A distressing video has gone viral on social media in which a man is allegedly masturbating on a Delhi Metro while other riders around him are visibly uncomfortable and moving away.
Reacting to the incident, Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal said she has issued a notice to the Delhi Police and Delhi Metro to take strict action for the ‘shameful act’.
”In a viral video, a man can be seen masturbating in the Delhi Metro,” she said. It’s incredibly repulsive and terrible. The accused must be arrested, and strict action must be taken. More and more such examples are emerging in the Delhi Metro, and exemplary action must be done against such individuals to protect women’s safety in the metro.”
The Delhi Police filed a case on Friday in connection with a viral video of a guy masturbating in a metro train.
According to a senior police officer, the police took action on their own responsibility and filed a complaint under Section 294 of the IPC (obscene actions and songs). The investigation was now underway. The DCW has requested a copy of the FIR filed in the case as well as a comprehensive action taken report by May 1.
In a tweet, the DMRC stated that it will ‘intensify’ the deployment of flying squads in the metro.
”We urge all commuters to behave properly when using the Metro. If other commuters witness any inappropriate activity, they should immediately report it to the DMRC Helpline, providing details such as the corridor, station, and time.
DMRC will increase the number of flying squads comprised of Metro and security personnel to monitor such behavior in the Metro, and necessary legal action will be taken,” it tweeted.
