KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, is unlikely to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a significant thigh injury acquired during the team’s last game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Furthermore, the PTI has confirmed that veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat has a serious shoulder injury and has been ruled out of the IPL.
The BCCI Sports Science & Medical Team is now racing against the clock to get senior batter-keeper Rahul ready for the World Test Championship final, which will be held in London from June 7 to 11. It is critical that he recovers in time to play for India in this key encounter.
Rahul sustained his injury while rushing to the boundary to grab a Faf du Plessis cover shot off Marcus Stoinis’ bowling.
“KL is currently in Lucknow with the team, but he will leave the camp on Thursday after watching the game against CSK on Wednesday.” His scans will be performed in Mumbai at a BCCI-approved medical institution. “BCCI will handle both his and Jaydev’s cases,” a top BCCI source familiar with the situation told PTI on condition of anonymity.
So far, no scans have been performed, according to the source. When someone suffers from this type of injury, there is usually a lot of pain and swelling in the affected area. It usually takes 24 to 48 hours for the swelling to go down before a scan can be done.
“Since he is an important member of the test team, it would only be prudent that he doesn’t take any further part in IPL,” he further added.
“Once the scans determine the extent of injury, the BCCI medical team will determine the next steps,” a source added.
Prior to their upcoming match against RCB, Jaydev Unadkat took an awkward fall while bowling in the nets. Even in the case of Unadkat, it is understood that things are not looking good at the time. “It’s a good thing Jaydev doesn’t have a dislocation, but his shoulder isn’t in great shape, and he won’t be able to play IPL this season.” “We also don’t know if he’ll be ready for the WTC final,” he said.
Unadkat and Rahul were both strong contenders for a berth in India’s XI for the World Tennis Championship final. If they are both unable to participate, the Indian selection committee will have to explore other choices. Selectors must carefully assess all available candidates before making a smart decision that will boost the team’s performance.
