For keeping dogs at home, permission from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation is now mandatory. Many people do not know that keeping dogs without permission can lead to penal action. Residents living in Nagpur city limits can get a license to keep a dog in the municipal zone.
According to section 376 of the Municipal Act, none can keep a pet dog at home without the permission of Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
At the same time, according to the provisions of the Animal Birth Rate Control Rules 2001, it is stated that the dog owner will be responsible for the breeding control, vaccination, steril- ization of domestic dogs and getting the licence as per the rules. If the owner wants to keep a dog in the house subject to this regulation, it is mandatory by law to obtain permission from the animal husbandry department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
Dogs are allowed in every zone of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Rabies vaccination certificate is mandatory for registration. Annual registration fee of 500 is charged for one dog. One family can register maximum 3 dogs. Families keeping more than that number of dogs need to get a special permit.
