In Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharsahtra, machan census under Nisarg Anubhav Programme got effervescent response from public. Total 34 machans in the buffer ranges namely Paoni uc and Nagalwadi were offered for the nature enthusiasts. Last date for the application was 25th April. However, more than 150 applications were recieved. Few applications were recieved from other States also. Participants were selected based upon first come, first serve basis. Total 7 female participants were also there out of 34. In both ranges, people could sight tigers. Other animals sighted were Indian gaur, wild dog, spotted deer, sambhar, blue bull mangoose, wild cat, porcupine, etc. Total, 224 animals could be sighted from machans in buffer. In core area of tiger reserve, machan census was undertaken by the field staff. Total 70 machans were used for the census in core area where more than 1000 animals could be spotted. Highest number was in 475 animals from 15 machans in Chorbahuli range.
