Supreme Court issued notice to West Bengal govt on the plea of makers of the movie, ‘The Kerala Story’ challenging the decision of the WB govt to ban the screening of the movie in the state. Supreme Court also issued notice to Tamil Nadu state government regarding the de facto ban on the movie in the state.
“The movie is being exhibited all over the country, why should West Bengal govt ban the movie, why should you not allow it to run? The film is running in different parts of the country with similar demographic profiles. This has nothing to do with the cinematic value of the movie, it may be good or bad,” says CJI DY Chandrachud
The producers of the film appealed to the Supreme Court against the ban on the film The Kerala Story imposed by the states of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. While the film is banned in two states, the BJP-ruled states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have made Kerala Story tax-free.
