Accused Niraj Singh Rathod, who offered ministerial posts to BJP MLAs in exchange for money, has been arrested by the police from Gujarat and brought to Nagpur. A team headed by Deputy Commissioner of Crime Branch Mumukkam Sudarshan will interrogate the accused.
On the complaint of MLA Vikas Kumbhare, Nagpur Police had registered a case against Niraj Singh Rathod at Tehsil Police Station. A crime branch team had left for Gujarat to nab the accused. Police arrested the accused from Morbi, Gujarat. A team of Nagpur police reached Nagpur along with the accused around Thursday afternoon. The accused will be produced in court today, and police custody will be sought for him.
Accused Niraj Singh Rathod had offered ministerial posts to MLAs of Maharashtra, Goa and Manipur. He had claimed to be the personal assistant of BJP National President J P Nadda. His plan was to extort a huge amount from them in return. It is also known that two MLAs have transferred some amount to the account of the accused. Meanwhile, after realizing Niraj’s lie, MLA Vikas Kumbhare filed a police complaint. Kamptee MLA Tekchand Savarkar also received similar calls from Rathod in February.
DCP of Crime Branch Mummukam Sudarshan said, “the accused, Niraj Singh Rathod, has confessed to the crime, and further investigation will reveal more information”.
