India’s compound mixed team, consisting of Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, continued their remarkable performance by clinching successive gold medals at the World Cup. After their victory in the Stage 1 event in Antalya, the duo displayed exceptional skills and composure to defeat the top-seeded Korean team and secure another gold medal with a score of 156-155.
Both the Indian pair and the experienced Korean duo, Kim Jongho and Oh Yoohyun, maintained a consistent performance, scoring 39 points out of 40 in each of the first three ends. However, in the final end, the Koreans faltered under pressure. At the same time, Deotale and Jyothi maintained their form and scored another 39 points, ultimately sealing their back-to-back World Cup gold medals.
Despite a shaky start from Deotale, Jyothi showcased her precision, compensating for her partner’s performance. The duo demonstrated excellent chemistry at the highest level of competition. The final end ended in a tie at 117-117, but Jyothi’s final arrow, scoring a perfect 10, secured the victory for India. A measurement was required for Oh Yoohyun’s final arrow to confirm the Indian team’s triumph.
Reflecting on their success, Jyothi expressed satisfaction with their coordination and shooting process throughout the World Cup. She now looks forward to the World Archery Championships in Berlin, where she aims to achieve further success. With three gold medals, including an individual victory in the Antalya leg, Jyothi has made a strong start to the 2023 World Cup season.
