Citizens facing lot of problems at various banks including nationalised ones while returning Rs 2,000 notes. There are clear guidelines issued by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) asking banks not to seek any document or get any slip filled while depositing the notes. But when people reached their respective banks, they had very different experience.

SBI has already written a letter to its Chief General Manager. It says, “It has been decided that the facility of exchange of Rs 2,000 denomination Banknotes to all members of the public upto a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time will be allowed without obtaining any requisition slip. Further, no identity proof is required to be submitted by the tenderer at the time of exchange. SBI has also asked to arrange for the convenience and comfort of customers. The bank employees should offer all help to public, the letter makes it clear.
According to some Bank staff, they are asking ID proof because they want to avoid further controversy if some people submit fake notes. Meanwhile ATM machines are expected to reset the cash withdrawal to disable the recycling of Rs 2,000 notes.
