The “Wonder Caves” event, part of the “Amrit Mahotsav of Independence,” will be held on May 27, 2023, in Ellora, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad). Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, this festival celebrates cultural pride, highlighting the history, culture, and freedom fighters associated with India’s forts and caves.
Supervised by the South Central Cultural Center and the Archaeological Survey of India, the event will feature a heritage walk, photography exhibition, and art workshop from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. In the evening, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, cultural programs will take place. Shahir Yashwant Jadhav and his group will perform “Povada Gayan,” showcasing Maharashtra’s rich folk art and cultural heritage, with a focus on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the freedom struggle. Additionally, the Mahagami Dance Troupe, led by Parvati Datta, will present “Nrityankan,” a dance drama inspired by the architectural and sculptural elements of the Ellora Caves. This performance will bring to life narratives from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and the engravings of the Kailash Temple.
The event is open to all art enthusiasts and spectators, with free admission. It is a grand celebration of India’s cultural legacy, paying tribute to the historical significance and artistic brilliance of its forts and caves.
