The Maharashtra government has announced the Shaktipeeth Expressway, set to become India’s longest expressway, connecting Nagpur to Goa. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde revealed the project during a NITI Aayog meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The expressway aims to connect three Shaktipeethas, two Jyotirlingas, and pilgrimage centres across east, west, and south Maharashtra, reducing travel time between Nagpur and Goa by 10 hours. Stretching approximately 760 km, it surpasses the Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Highway in length.
The ongoing Samruddhi Mahamarg project, already reducing travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur, has completed 600 km with plans to connect Igatpuri and Mumbai in the next phase. The Shaktipeeth Expressway will pass through 11 districts, fostering connectivity and development across Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Konkan regions.
