Escalating the protests against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh, Indian wrestlers have announced their intention to throw their medals into the Ganga River in Haridwar. Following that, they will initiate an indefinite hunger strike at India Gate.
The wrestlers made this announcement a day after their clash with Delhi police, resulting in temporary arrests. The wrestlers were demanding the arrest of BJP MP and WFI head Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing him of sexually harassing female wrestlers. The scuffle occurred when the wrestlers attempted to march towards the new Parliament building for a women’s “Mahapanchayat.” Despite warnings about disturbing the inauguration ceremony, the protesters continued, leading to an FIR being filed against them. The wrestlers’ symbolic medal disposal and hunger strike reflect their determination to seek justice and accountability within the WFI.
