The name of Ahmednagar in Maharashtra will now be changed as Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have announced.
Shinde and Fadnavis made the announcement at Choundi in Ahmednagar during a programme to celebrate the birth anniversary programme of Ahilyadevi Holkar on Wednesday. Fadnavis said that his government changed the name of Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and of Osmanabad as Dharashiv. He expressed confidence that the name of Ahmednagar will also be changed soon.
Fadnavis explained several schemes for the development of the Dhangar (Shepherd) community. A corpus fund of Rs 10,000 crore was raised under the leadership of Vikhe-Patil. The government has decided to extend interest-free loans to the community member. The demand for making available grazing grounds for sheep during monsoon season, which was pending for the last 25 years, has been accepted. A total of 22 different schemes have been made available for the development of the community. The works worth Rs 1 crore for the Dhangar community were started. But funds were not made available. Later the government changed and provision of the funds has been made in the budget.
BJP MLA Ram Shinde raised the demand of changing the name of Ahmednagar to Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkarnagar.
Fadnavis also stated that every year 25,000 tenements for the Dhangar community will be constructed by the government.
Eknath Shinde also assured that the name of Ahmednagar will be changed. The decision has already been taken by the government.
