Maharashtra Public Service Commission has issued a corrigendum in its notification to include degree holders in Social Work for the post of Assistant Social Welfare Officer Group-A and B.
Following strong opposition by Social Work degree holders, the correction was made. Now only Social Work post-graduates (MSW) degree holders will be able to apply for the post of Assistant Social Welfare Officer Group-A.
The Social Welfare Department had issued recruitment notice for 41 posts of Social Welfare Officers Group-A, and 22 posts under Group-B. Any graduate was eligible for applying for the posts.
The social work degree holders and their organisations raised their voice against the eligibility criteria. The Social Work students are educated in social development, sociology, psychology, personal counselling, group work etc. They were the most eligible persons for the post.
Now any graduate with post-graduation in Social Work only will be eligible to apply for the post under the Group-A category posts.
