Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Sunday the government’s plan to transition all buses in India from diesel to electric within the next five to seven years. This initiative aims to reduce pollution caused by diesel buses and promote sustainable transportation options.
Gadkari emphasized the government’s vision of making India an economic superpower during a media address highlighting the achievements of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government. The government has already deployed electric double-decker buses to transport senior citizens to pilgrimage centres and is developing a policy to use segregated garbage in road construction. Additionally, the government plans to construct railway overpasses and underpasses to improve accessibility across the country, with an allocated budget of Rs 16,000 crore. Gadkari expressed confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and highlighted the rapid growth witnessed in just nine years of the Modi Government compared to the previous 60 years under Congress rule. The Nag River rejuvenation project, for which Rs 2,400 crore has been sanctioned, is also progressing. Gadkari expressed his intention to take a boat ride along the iconic river after its completion.
