When a crime is committed, it is the responsibility of the police to investigate and arrest the accused, collect evidence against him and submit it to the court. However, Nagpur Police has started implementing a special “Adoption Scheme” so that the accused of serious crimes will reach a certain punishment.
The cases of serious crimes are being adopted by the Deputy Commissioner of Police along with the Investigating Officer to ensure that the accused in serious crimes like murder, rape, molestation and molestation are punished.
A senior officer of the rank of DCP has to monitor the charge sheet in the case whether it has been filed properly and timely by the Investigating Officer. Moreover, after the filing of the charge sheet, it is to be monitored whether all the evidence related to the charge sheet is presented in a strong manner in the court process, whether the public prosecutor is presenting the evidence before the court in a proper manner or not.
The aim of this adoption scheme is to ensure that those accused of serious crimes are convicted and punished severely. Currently, 38 cases of rape and 42 cases of murder have been adopted by senior officials under this adoption scheme.
Accused of serious crimes are getting away with scot-free and the same accused are found to be emboldened to commit crimes again and again in future. Subsequently, the Nagpur Police has authorized DCP level officers to keep a close watch on serious crime cases while the Investigating Officers are investigating and assigned ten cases each. Meanwhile, it will be clear in the next few months how much the rate of conviction increases through the adoption scheme of Nagpur Police for these crimes.
