Siliguri’s three-day Mango Festival showcased the world’s most expensive mango variety, ‘Miyazaki,’ priced at approximately Rs 2.75 lakh per kilogram in the international market.
The seventh edition of the festival, organized by Modella Caretaker Centre & School (MCCS) and the Association for Conservation & Tourism (ACT), began on June 9 at a mall in Siliguri. The event featured over 262 mango varieties, with 55 growers from nine districts of West Bengal participating. The Miyazaki mango, also known as ‘Red Sun’ or ‘Surja Dim’ in Bengali, gained popularity for its rich nutrients, taste, vibrant colour, and high sugar content. Originally produced in California, Indian growers, particularly from Bengal, have started cultivating this prized variety.
