NMC-run English medium Schools, established in various constituencies of Nagpur city, are gearing up for the new academic session. The responsibility of managing these schools has been taken up by ‘The Aakanksha Foundation’.
Students in Nagpur municipal schools are now able to compete with students from other schools, thanks to the introduction of English Medium Schools in 2021. English medium education began in different locations, such as the Babulban Municipal Primary School in East Nagpur, Ramnagar Municipal Primary School in West Nagpur, Rani Durgavati Municipal Primary School in North Nagpur, Ram Bhau Mhalginagar Municipal Primary School in South Nagpur, Baburao Bobde Municipal Primary School in South-West Nagpur, and Gopalraoji Motghare (Khadan) Municipal Primary School in Central Nagpur.
The provision of quality English medium education and effective management has garnered positive responses from parents over the past two years. As the new academic session of 2023-24 approaches, attention is being given to completing classroom constructions and other facilities in these schools. The keys to their success lie with the Aakanksha Foundation, led by the school’s administrator, Mr. Somsurva Chatterjee.
Mr. Rajendra Pussekar, the Education Officer of Nagpur, stated that the decision to start English Medium Schools in Nagpur was made during a meeting held in the Municipal Council Hall. In order to inspect and evaluate prominent schools in the city, a committee was formed by various municipal corporations in the state. The committee visited schools in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai, including those managed by the Aakanksha Foundation. After meeting all these schools, the committee also recommended establishing English Medium Schools in Nagpur.
As a result, the responsibility for managing English Medium Schools in the city has been shared between the Municipal Corporation and the Aakanksha Foundation. Technological and financial cooperation will be provided by the foundation for these schools. The foundation will contribute 30% of the teachers’ salaries in the first year, 35% in the second year, 40% in the third year, and 45% from the fourth year onwards, with the remaining expenses covered by the Municipal Corporation. This includes basic amenities, electricity, water supply, school construction and maintenance, uniforms, textbooks, supplementary nutrition, transportation, school security, and cleanliness.
