Four people were charred to death as an oil tanker caught fire on Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Three others received burn injuries. Traffic on both sides was halted for about one and a half hours following the accident.
The accident occurred near Khandala on an over-bridge when the oil tanker turned turtle and caught fire. Some vehicles moving under the bridge also caught fire as the oil spilled from the tanker fell on them. A two-wheeler also slipped and caught fire in which a 12-year-old boy died of burn injuries. His parents received serious burn injuries.
As per preliminary information, four persons died and three were injured in the accident. The driver of the tanker is also injured. The traffic on both sides was stopped and diverted through Lonavala City. The rescue operations on war footing were undertaken.
