The sub-regional transport office in Nagpur East and the regional transport offices in Nagpur City and Rural have been out of smart card registration certificates (RC) for a month. It won’t be long as the wait is over. New format smart cards will be provided to transport offices soon.
RCS used to be in paper booklet form before 2006 when the smart card format was introduced. A private supplier named Shong was contracted for providing the smart cards. The contract with the company ended in June 2014. It was not hired again for three years. For this reason, RC books with paper booklets were again provided for registration vehicles. Rosemarta Technologies Ltd. was then awarded the contract in 2017. Its contract has also now come to an end. According to recent reports, Manipal Technology Company of Karnataka has won the contract for the delivery of smart cards.
