The Solid Waste Management Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has started penal action against those who throw leftover food and oil in the chamber. NMC has been targeting big hotels and banquet halls for dumping leftover food in drains and chambers. NMC noticed that the chambers in the premises of the big hotels were always chocks. Now along with cleaning the chambers, the guilty hoteliers are being fined lakhs of rupees.
It was noticed that the hotel staff threw leftover food, oil products, and vegetables in the drain chamber.
Between January 1 and May 31, the NDS team of the NMC took action against 29 people for blocking the chamber, breaking it, digging the road without permission, and collecting a fine of Rs.3 lakh.
