The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that 10 Indian states are likely to face severe heatwaves for the next 48 hours. Vidarbha region in Maharastra is also predicted to face soaring temperatures for the next two days.
The scorching heatwave continues to afflict North India, with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar bearing the brunt of soaring temperatures. Tragically, multiple deaths were reported at a hospital in Ballia, initially attributed to the severe heat, with most of the deceased individuals above 60.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a concerning forecast, predicting severe heatwave conditions in the coming days for ten states, including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. With the mercury soaring past 40 degrees Celsius, people are eagerly anticipating relief, but unfortunately, the heatwave is expected to persist.
The Vidarbha region in Maharashtra has been alerted to brace for severe heatwave conditions over the next three days. Telangana, Jharkhand, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and eastern Uttar Pradesh are set to face sweltering temperatures.
However, a glimmer of hope lies on the horizon. The IMD announced that the monsoon is likely to arrive in Eastern India within the next two to three days, influenced by Cyclone Biparjoy. The cyclone’s current position in southern Rajasthan is expected to bring heavy rain to the region, extending to Madhya Pradesh and the southern part of Uttar Pradesh.
Dr. Naresh Kumar, an IMD scientist, indicated that the monsoon’s arrival is imminent, providing respite from the scorching heatwave that has plagued the region. In the meantime, people are urged to take necessary precautions and stay hydrated during this prolonged heatwave.
