Nagpur Metro has recently launched an exclusive scheme, offering commuters a free Maha Card with a top-up value of Rs. 200. Initially introduced from May 16 to June 15, the scheme garnered immense popularity, benefiting approximately 5,000 citizens who availed themselves of this unique opportunity. In response to the overwhelming enthusiasm shown by the public, the scheme has been extended for an additional two months, now available until August 14. This innovative initiative is in commemoration of India’s 75th Independence Day and the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
The Maha Card scheme aims to promote the use of digital payment methods within the Nagpur Metro network. Commuters are encouraged to utilize convenient options such as mobile applications and the Maha Card itself for purchasing metro tickets. Interestingly, individuals are exempted from paying the usual Rs. 150 fees while acquiring the Maha Card. Furthermore, the card comes with a complimentary top-up value of Rs. 200, valid for one month. Commuters enjoy a 10% discount on ticket fares when utilizing the Maha Card for metro travel. The State Bank of India (SBI) collaborates with Nagpur Metro in operating the Maha Card scheme.
The Maha Card and the advanced AFC system are completely secure and transparent, and the fare is deducted from the card based on the travel. The features of the Maha Card are as follows:
- The Maha Card can be purchased and topped up at metro stations.
- It is a highly secure chip-based dual interface (contact and contactless) smart card.
- It adopts the swiping method.
- It is convenient for Internet and mobile-based transactions.
- Personal cards (such as Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) are accepted at the platforms.
