Maharashtra Government has decided to conduct health examinations for senior citizens (above 60 years) free of cost twice in a year. The health check-up and related tests will be conducted at all the government hospitals free of charge.
The senior citizens will be issued ‘Abha’ cards for the purpose. The facilities will also be available at the Super Speciality Hospitals. The Government has also directed all the authorities concerned to cover the treatment under Mahatma Phule Janarogya Yojana, if any health issue required further treatment.
There are about 1.50 crore senior citizens in the state, who will be covered under the scheme.
The hospitals have been directed to open Palliative Care Wards in phases.
The police stations have been directed to constitute a committee headed by a prominent senior citizen in their area and inform people through the committee about the scheme.
A separate commissionerate for the senior citizens may be formed after consultation with the Finance Department. The scheme will be implemented through the Social Welfare and Special Assistance Department and Public Health Department.
Two senior citizens will be included in the committee formed at the district and taluka levels for the effective implementation of the Mahatma Phule Janarogya Yojana. Two members of FESCOM will be included in the committee for resolving problems faced by senior citizens.
A notification to this effect has been issued by the Health Department of Maharashtra Government.
