US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden recently hosted an official State dinner for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the menu included a notable wine with Indian roots. The ‘Patel Red Blend 2019’, produced by Patel Winery in Napa Valley, took centre stage during the event.
Owned by Raj Patel, an NRI originally from Gujarat, the wine’s inclusion garnered significant attention. Raj Patel, who moved to California in 1972, founded Patel Winery in 2007 after developing a passion for fine wines during his time at Robert Mondavi Winery. The Patel Red Blend 2019, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, has been highly acclaimed, receiving a 95 out of 100 scores from The Wine Advocate. With subsequent vintages also receiving impressive scores, Patel Winery continues expanding its limited-production wines offering, specializing in Bordeaux varietals from Napa Valley, producing 1000 cases per year.
