In response to the escalating number of complaints regarding illegally parked private buses causing traffic congestion on major thoroughfares during peak evening hours, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has received a directive to cancel the licenses of these offending buses promptly. In light of this pressing issue, Sandip Joshi, Secretary of the Deputy Chief Minister’s Camp Office, has called for a meeting with officials from the Traffic Control Branch and Nagpur City Police to address the matter.
The problem of illegally parked private buses has become particularly acute in the Ganeshpeth area near the Central Bus Stand, where even the convoy of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was ensnared in traffic due to haphazardly parked buses on the city roads. Taking note of the severity of the situation, Joshi convened a special meeting with various officials and issued a directive to crack down on the unlawful parking practices of these buses. Attendees of the meeting included Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 3, Gorakh Bhamre, former corporators Pramod Chikhle, Vijay Chutele, and Lata Kadgaye, as well as representatives from the Traffic Control Branch, RTO, and Transport Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The authorities have already issued orders stipulating that private buses are prohibited from operating within 200 meters of the Central Bus Stand belonging to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). However, in clear violation of this order, private buses continue to be parked on the roads, causing disruptions and aggravating traffic congestion.
The recent directive from officials aims to address this pressing issue and ensure smoother traffic flow within the city. By cancelling the licenses of privately owned buses found to be parked illegally, the authorities hope to send a strong message and discourage such violations in the future.
Motorists and residents are urged to remain patient as the enforcement of these measures is expected to improve traffic conditions in Nagpur. The authorities are committed to addressing the issue promptly and ensuring the safety and convenience of the city’s commuters.
