Under the accident control campaign across the state, the transport department is going to implement new rules along with helmet compulsion. As per reports, children below 18 years of age will not get be issued a driving license for 25 years if they are found driving a 2-wheeler with a capacity of more than 50 cc. Action will be taken based on the Central Motor Vehicle Act.
Lakhs of people lose their lives in road accidents every year and in the state about 15 thousand people lose their lives. Many of them are permanently disabled. According to a report by the Transport Department, more than 51 per cent of the total accidents between January 2022 and December 2022 involved two-wheelers. Over 7,000 people were dead. In many cases, no helmets were used.
The World Health Organization has set a goal of reducing accidents by 50 per cent by 2030. According to this, the transport department is now going to carry out a two-wheeler inspection and counselling campaign along with helmets at affordable prices across the state.
After 16 years, children can drive vehicles below 50 cc. But, it requires a license. Motorcycle dealers are now required to provide two helmets to the customer. Action will now be taken against those who do not provide two helmets to the customers.
