In tiger projects across the country, the vehicle used for tourism is in the hands of male drivers. However, the Tadoba-Andhari tiger project administration has decided to hand over the gypsies to women for the first time. It should not be surprising if the ‘steering’ of vehicles in Tadoba is seen in the hands of women in the coming tourism season.
Under the ‘Bharari’ initiative of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, four-wheeler driver training was started for young women and women aged 18 to 35 years in the buffer, especially in the villages very close to the core area. For this, a large number of young women and especially married women, enrolled for driver training.
This innovation will be implemented in different phases. The first phase includes the villages of Khutwanda, Ghosari and Sitarampeth. After this, the villages of Kolara, Satara, Bamhnangaon, Bhamdeli, Kondegaon and Mohrli will be included. Interestingly, the Forest Department received 84 applications to participate in this initiative.
Participating trainees through the driving program will initially receive a trainee and then a regular driving license. All training expenses will be borne by Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Conservation Foundation.
