The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, under the National Health Mission launched the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), an innovative and ambitious initiative, which envisages Child Health Screening and Early Intervention Services, a systemic approach of early identification and link to care, support and treatment. Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is one of its kind programs to improve the overall quality of life of children enabling all children achieve their full potential; and also provide comprehensive care to all the children in the community. This program involves screening of children from birth to 18 years of age for 4 Ds- Defects at birth, Diseases, Deficiencies and Development delays, spanning 32 common health conditions for early detection and free treatment and management, including surgeries at tertiary level. Children diagnosed with identified selected health conditions are provided early intervention services and follow-up care at the district level. These services are provided free of cost, thus helping their families reduce out of pocket expenditure incurred on the treatment.
In a ground-breaking move towards accessible healthcare, SMHRC has been approved under RBSK (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram) scheme, aiming to transform the lives of children in our community. SMHRC Hospital, renowned for its state-of-the-art facilities and highly qualified healthcare professionals, has been selected as the primary provider for this life-changing program.
Under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) scheme in SMHRC, several surgeries are provided free of cost for children up to 18 years of age such as, Congenital heart surgeries, which includes corrective surgeries for various heart conditions present from birth, such as ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, tetralogy of Fallot, and others, Orthopaedic corrections, like clubfoot, limb deformities, scoliosis etc. Cleft lip and palate surgeries, Hernia repair, Hydrocephalus surgeries, Thyroid surgeries, cataract removal, squint correction. Genitourinary surgeries, conditions like undescended testes, hypospadias, and other abnormalities. Epilepsy surgery, Surgeries for congenital anomalies. Neurosurgery etc.
Dr.Sudhir Singh- SMHRC AMS stated that by offering free and subsidized surgeries through RBSK; SMHRC seeks to bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility, particularly for families who struggle to afford the high costs associated with surgical procedures. This initiative ensures that children receive the necessary treatment without financial constraints, enabling them to lead healthier lives and reach their full potential.
