Nagpur AIIMS, which received the ‘NABH’ rating for best service, has come to light that new ideas are being used by hospital staff to cheat patients. Money is being extorted by asking the patients for an injection of ‘contrast’ for MRI and then returning it to the concerned shop without using it. Two people have been arrested in the matter so far.
As per sources, when the patient comes for the MRI, the staff ask them to bring the contrast injection from outside. They say that this would give a clear and the diagnosis would be accurate. They would then return the unused injection to the drug store and get paid. When the scene came to the attention of the AIIMS administration, they lodged a complaint with the police. The police arrested two AIIMS employees and a broker.
A person came to Amrit Pharmacy in AIIMS two to three times in a row on different days to return the contrast medicine and its payment. The employees here got suspicious and tracked him down. When the suspect was caught and searched with the help of security guards, more than three injections were found in his possession. When his mobile phone was checked, it was found that he was in constant touch with one of the staff at AIIMS. This revealed the involvement of both of them in this malpractice.
In this case, Rajat Rakesh Gildia (26), a contract worker and Sobit Upreti, were arrested by the police.
