Hundreds of trees have to be cut for various development works at GMC Hospital Nagpur. permission has been sought from the Garden Department of Municipal Corporation by the GMC Administration to cut the trees.
Four separate requests have been given by the GMC to the Municipal Corporation, out of which 3 have been allowed by the Garden Department under the conditions of the Forest Conservation and Promotion Act of the state.
In a letter sought by the GMC to the Corporation for the felling of trees, permission has also been sought to cut 18 trees.
GMC is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav year of its establishment. On this occasion, for the expansion of GMC, an amount of more than 500 crores has been made available by the state government. Many types of construction work are going to be done in GMC with this money. For this construction work, permission has been sought to cut trees by making four separate applications from the Municipal Corporation.
According to the permission sought by the Municipal Corporation, the GMC Administration has sought permission to cut 481 trees. Out of which 187 trees will be cut for the construction of a hostel for 400 room capacity, 86 trees for the construction of new 80 rooms paying ward, 190 for the new centre of the Radiology department and 18 trees in the lawn in front of the dean’s office.
According to the information received, out of four applications, the Municipal Corporation has given permission to three applications under the conditions of the Forest Protection and Promotion Act of the state. With this permission, GMC has been directed to plant 4203 new trees in lieu of 187 trees, 2149 trees in lieu of 86 trees and 676 trees in lieu of 18 trees and maintain them for the next 7 years. According to the GMC administration, it is making arrangements to plant about 7,000 new trees in the campus itself to compensate for the trees being cut. All the trees will be planted in this monsoon.
