Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has placed a massive order for 5,150 air-conditioned electric buses, marking a major step towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation.
The MSRTC, known for its extensive fleet of 17,000 buses, intends to deploy these electric buses on inter-city corridor routes such as Mumbai to Aurangabad, Solapur, Nanded, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Pune, and Nashik. The plan also includes establishing charging facilities along key routes like Pune-Nashik on freeways, Pune-Mahabaleshwar, and Nashik-Shirdi. The contract was awarded to a consortium comprising Olectra Greentech and Evey Trans Private Ltd (Evey), with Olectra Greentech responsible for the buses’ supply, operation, and maintenance. Over a span of 24 months, the buses will be delivered, while Olectra Greentech will provide maintenance services throughout the contract period.
The order comprises 2,800 buses measuring 12 meters in length and 2,350 buses measuring 9 meters. This initiative reflects the MSRTC’s renewed commitment to electric mobility, aligning with the government’s push for sustainable transportation solutions.
