95 tigers died in the country in just six months. Madhya Pradesh is in the lead followed by Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. According to the tiger census data released in April, there has been an increase of around 200 tigers since 2018.
On the occasion of 50 years of ‘Project Tiger’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the statistics of tiger census. According to these statistics, 200 tigers have increased in the country since 2018.
However, according to data from the National Tiger Conservation Authority, more than 95 tigers have died across the country till June 25 this year. Most of these 24 tigers died in Madhya Pradesh, 19 in Maharashtra and 14 in Uttarakhand.
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has ordered an inquiry in this matter. After the tiger poaching in Madhya Pradesh, the Central Wildlife Crime Control Branch has issued a ‘red alert’ to several states in India. Tiger reserves and habitats in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are targeted by poachers.
In the case of Maharashtra, hunting and tracking of hunters stopped after 2017. Hunters are taking advantage of it. The death of a tiger in Pench Tiger Reserve a few days ago was suspicious. Now the statistics of tigers in six months has come out. Therefore, not only the tiger reserve, but all tiger-centric areas have to be carefully monitored.
