The prevalence of dengue and other diseases among medical students in Nagpur has become a growing concern. Recently, a young girl who was actively involved in the healthcare department and studying B.Sc. Nursing contracted dengue and is currently undergoing treatment. Moreover, several students within the medical campus have reported falling ill, indicating a potential outbreak.
Dengue cases in the Nagpur district have now reached 50, with some suspected fatalities. However, the confirmation of dengue-related deaths is awaiting official confirmation from the Mortality Review Committee, pending their analysis. Out of the 50 patients, 30 are from urban areas, while the remaining 20 are from rural areas.
In response to the increasing number of dengue cases, doctors advise affected individuals to prioritize rest, maintain proper hydration through ample water intake, consume fluids, manage body temperature, and take one to three doses of paracetamol or prescribed medication. It is crucial to exercise caution as dengue can escalate rapidly if not promptly addressed.
With the monsoon season exacerbating the situation, the usage of coolers in households has increased, potentially contributing to the proliferation of mosquitoes. To combat the breeding of mosquitoes, preventive measures such as maintaining proper sanitation, and cleanliness, and eliminating stagnant water become paramount.
The local health authorities are working diligently to contain the outbreak and raise awareness among the community about the importance of preventive measures to mitigate the spread of dengue and safeguard public health.
