Issue raised in Legislative Council on Tuesday
Another committee is being formed to enquire about alleged mismanagement and corruption in Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU). The charges against Vice-Chancellor include wrongfully allotment to MKCL (Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited), construction work without floating a tender, inordinate delay in announcement of results, payment to MKCL even when the Education Minister had directed to stop allotment of work etc.
The issue was raised by Pravin Datke in the Legislative Council on Tuesday. Datke is also a member of RTMNU Senate, nominated by the Legislative Council. Datke said that action was not initiated even after Edu7cation Minister Chandrakant Patil held a meeting at RTMNU, which was followed by enquiry through a senior secretary Ajit Bawiskar. The PWD has also submitted its report charging RTMNU authorities of carrying out construction without following the tender procedure and favouring a particular contractor.
Education Minister Chandrakant Patil said that the Governor who is also the Chancellor of Universities in Maharashtra is the appointing authority of Vice-Chancellors. Action would be initiated by him. However, Patil assured the constitution of another committee today itself to conduct enquiry into the charges leveled by Datke and Congress MLC from Nagpur Abhijit Wanjari.
The Chancellor’s office is flooded with complaints against Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari. The Chancellor also held a meeting with the VC, Pro-VC and complainants in connection with the complaints.
