The fly ash generated by the Koradi Thermal Power Station has become a menace for the villagers and farmers in the vicinity. At the same time effective disposal of the ash is a major headache for the administration.
On Wednesday evening the ash bund of the Koradi Thermal Power Station (KTPS) breached due to heavy rains. The ash with water gushed through agricultural farms and also entered the Kanhan River.
Flyash from KTPS has been a problem for the residents of Koradi and adjoining villages. Local people have been demanding action by the authorities concerned to sort out the problems of air and water pollution in the region.
About 100 acres of agricultural land were filled with water contaminated by the fly ash.
