Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has issued a show cause notice to Maharashtra State Power Generation Company in connection with Khaparkheda ash dam burst.
MPCB Nagpur Regional Officer Hema Deshpande said that after receiving the reply, it will be sent to the MPCB board and action will be taken accordingly. According to the ash policy of the government, instructions were given to the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company to make permanent planning for 100 percent ash utilization and the ash dam not to burst further.
Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar held a meeting with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MBCB) on Friday. instructions were given for permanent planning of ash disposal.
The ash dam of the Koradi Thermal Power Plant burst in July 2022 last year. After that, the ash-mixed water from here reached the water treatment plant that supplies water to the city of Nagpur through the nearby river along with the farms in the area. Now again on 19th July due to rain, the ash dam of Khaparkheda thermal power plant burst and water mixed with ash entered the agriculture in the area.
