A Sub-centre of National Forensic University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat is likely to be opened in Nagpur soon. Search for the space is being carried out around Nagpur city.
The need for the development of forensic sciences was expressed following the steep rise in cybercrime, the need for DNA and other testing, CCTV footage analysis, Forensic Psychology etc.
The Extension of the National Forensic University would require a huge infrastructure. Several hectares of land is required for the purpose. Dr S O Junare of the National Forensic University visited Nagpur and visited some proposed locations in Nagpur’s rural areas. The rural administration has been directed to search for open land which can be made available for the university.
The Deputy Director of the Regional Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Nagpur is also on the lookout for the space for the University. The Department of Home Affairs has also issued instructions for expediting the procedure for finalizing the location of the University.
Besides helping in conducting tests, the University will be able to develop experts in forensic science in Nagpur.
